How is medical cannabis produced?

Aurora is a global leader in medical cannabis production, with state-of-the-art facilities in Canada and Europe. Our facilities are designed and operated to ensure the highest level of quality and consistency for the benefit of our patients. Aurora’s production facility in Leuna

Production in Leuna is taken care of by Aurora Produktions GmbH. Aurora is one of three companies authorized to cultivate medicinal cannabis in Germany.

Aurora produces 1,000 kg of high-quality medicinal cannabis per year on around 3,600 sqm of production space on behalf of the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) on the 10,000 m² site in the Leuna Biochemical Park. EU GMP certification was granted in 2020. (GMP = Good Manufacturing Practice)

Cultivation

Each of our cultivars were bred to meet the different needs of patients who require access to multiple standardised varieties with different cannabinoid and terpene profiles. Aurora takes the science of cannabis cultivation very seriously. During the entire growth and processing phases, we ensure that the cannabinoid (THC, CBD) levels are constant and that no harmful micro-organisms are present. Each batch is checked multiple times to confirm it meets the required potency and quality thresholds.  These tests are required by government regulators and conducted by independent laboratories.

Drying, Processing and Packaging

We produce medical cannabis to the highest quality, end-to-end, batch-to-batch, to provide patients and prescribers with reliable and safe products under strict EU-GMP regulations. Our personnel, premises and materials meet the highest standards. Where permitted, products are exposed to irradiation to eliminate objectionable micro-organisms, like fungi and bacteria. This process ensures the cannabis dried flowers are safe for vaporisation and inhalation.
